- Sony’s latest fiscal results have revealed that Marvel’s Wolverine sold only 2.4 million copies in its first 50 days.
- The title’s performance is underwhelming compared to the sales of other Insomniac superhero projects.
- The game needs to sell 6 million copies in a year to meet annual targets.
A month or so after its release, it would be fair to say that the launch of Marvel’s Wolverine has been below par when pitting the title against previous Insomniac productions. The action-adventure game was not as widely acclaimed as the Spider-Man titles, with specific criticism going to its uninspiring nature and excessive accessibility options.
But Marvel’s Wolverine was seemingly changing its trajectory, becoming the best-selling title in the US last month and bringing in $193 million for Sony. As it turns out, however, the game has sold poorly compared to other Insomniac titles.
Why it matters: Taking into account how popular Wolverine is, Insomniac might be seeing layoffs, with sales being so low compared to other Insomniac titles.

Sony’s Q2 FY2026 financial results show that Marvel’s Wolverine has only sold 2.4 million copies so far, 50 days after launch. This reveal is certainly in line with predictions by analysts, but after pitting the action-adventure title against other Insomniac projects, these sales look very disappointing.
The first Marvel’s Spider-Man title sold a whopping 3.3 million copies in just its first three days, with its sequel topping 2.5 million copies in the first 24 hours. Considering how Marvel’s Wolverine’s budget was over three times that of the first Spider-Man title, these sales look terribly soft for a production this size.
Sony’s latest AAA console exclusive, Phantom Blade Zero, has also exceeded the lifetime sales of Marvel’s Wolverine in a few days, selling 4 million copies on PC and PS5. Hence, with the PS5 exclusive required to sell 6 million copies in a year, the results aren’t reflecting too kindly on Insomniac Games.

Ever since the first reviews of Marvel’s Wolverine hit the internet, fans and critics have been bashing the game for its excessive hand-holding and lack of creativity. Therefore, the title’s middling 6.4 Metacritic user score has certainly pushed away some prospective buyers.
Do you think Marvel’s Wolverine will make up for this underwhelming start on the market? Who is to blame for the exclusive’s lack of appeal? Tell us in the comments below or head to the Tech4Gamers forum for discussion.
