Journalist Reaffirms The Elder Scrolls 6 Sentinel is At Least 2 Years Away Amid Title Reveal

Could Sentinel Be An Xbox Helix Launch Title?

Story Highlight
  • Jason Schreier has reiterated that The Elder Scrolls 6 is still at least 2 years away.
  • Despite the title reveal, Bethesda still has no plans to release it any time soon.
  • It was announced 8 years ago just as a cushion to counter the Fallout 76 disaster.

After over 8 years of waiting, Bethesda officially confirmed “Sentinel” as the title of the next The Elder Scrolls game. The title reveal, however, was a bit lackluster to some, as it had no release window or even a brief first look.

Reaffirming the older reports that it is 2-3 years away, Jason Schreier has confirmed that The Elder Scrolls 6: Sentinel is still at least 2 years away. So, despite the title announcement, release plans aren’t close.

Why it matters: One would think that based on the over 8 years in development, Bethesda would be closer than ever to launching its flagship title, but it seems like they still need a lot more time to cook things up.

I think a lot of people forget that The Elder Scrolls VI was only announced in 2018 (along with Starfield) to soften the blow of Fallout 76 — "Don't worry, even though we're making a multiplayer game we've got single-player stuff coming too!"Sorry to say this game is still more than 2 years away!

Schreier noted that Sentinel was only announced this long ago, along with Starfield, to soften the blow of Fallout 76, so that the studio could reveal it has single-player games in the works, as the multiplayer bombed.

Additionally, Bethesda developers also revealed that Todd Howard wanted Starfield as the priority release. So, while they might’ve been working on it for this long, full-scale focus might’ve picked up much later than that.

Elder Scrolls 6
TES6 will still take a lot of time despite Bethesda revealing the title yesterday

Even in the studio’s message, they state that there will be some time before they reveal more. There could also be a possibility that Xbox wants TES6 to be a Helix launch title, as it, in theory, could be a console seller if exclusive.
