- Jason Schreier revealed that Elder Scrolls 6 is still 2 to 3 years away from launch.
- The earliest release date for the RPG is 2028, according to the insider.
- Furthermore, Bethesda is being restructured to focus on key IPs such as Fallout and The Elder Scrolls.
With the next generation of consoles looming over the industry, Xbox needs its biggest hits to come through more than ever before. The gaming giant is undergoing a major reset, and reports suggest it will make some of its best titles exclusive to the platform to attract new players.
However, one of the biggest games under Xbox’s care has been in development since 2018, and that title is none other than Elder Scrolls 6. As it turns out, players will need to wait even longer to play the RPG, as it won’t launch before 2028.
Why it matters: Making players wait over a decade to play one of the most anticipated RPGs of all time could backfire on Xbox if the hype dies down.

As revealed by Bloomberg’s Jason Schreier, The Elder Scrolls 6 is at least 2 to 3 years away from release, making the gap between its announcement and release date a full decade. At the earliest, the upcoming RPG will launch in 2028, but the production cycle could be extended beyond that timeframe.
The insider also confirmed that Bethesda is being restructured like the other Xbox developers to focus on key IPs like Fallout and Elder Scrolls.
Considering how the studio reiterated last year that Elder Scrolls 6 was still years away from launch, this release window isn’t too surprising. Todd Howard confirmed that most of Bethesda is working on the RPG as of 2025, with staff importing Unreal Engine 5 features into the Creation Engine for development.

Regardless, by the time Elder Scrolls 6 finally launches around 2029, it will have been almost 11 years since its initial announcement at E3 2018. Even though Bethesda has stated that the early reveal was done to manage fan expectations, it does feel like a lapse in judgment in hindsight.
