Xbox Wants Fans To Have A Reason To Buy Consoles Again!

Story Highlight
  • Xbox has recently returned to exclusives with the upcoming Gears of War: E-Day.
  • A new report states that Microsoft will pursue exclusivity for titles it deems the best among its first-party lineup.
  • Xbox hopes to drive console sales in the coming years with this strategy.

The Xbox brand has been through its fair share of turmoil over the years, and with the arrival of CEO Asha Sharma, the gaming giant appears to be weathering the storm of layoffs once again.

Following the latest wave of job cuts, Xbox is effectively aiming for a soft reset, impacting all areas of the business, including the management side. Xbox also recently confirmed a return to exclusivity, and a new report suggests that the gaming giant will stick to exclusivity for the foreseeable future.

Why it matters: Xbox has recently released most of its biggest games on PlayStation, but Gears of War: E-Day deviates from this trend.

According to Bloomberg’s latest report via Resetera, Xbox’s exclusivity strategy now appears to be set in stone.

It is said that the gaming giant will continue releasing its biggest multiplayer titles on all platforms. However, Microsoft will pursue exclusivity for what it considers the “best games from Xbox.”

The report notes that Microsoft hopes this strategy will drive players towards its platform, particularly the upcoming Project Helix console. In essence, Xbox is going to a back-to-basics approach to the console market.

This likely means that key franchises such as Forza Horizon will return to being exclusives yet again, but this leaves the question of IPs like Halo, which also place a great deal of focus on the multiplayer experience.

It will also be interesting to see whether Microsoft pursues exclusivity for IPs that have historically had a presence on rival platforms. In particular, Xbox could launch a significant first-party title like The Elder Scrolls 6 as an exclusive in the wake of its newfound focus on exclusivity.
