- The last five Resident Evil releases have grossed a whopping $850 million in 2026.
- Requiem is largely responsible for this figure, selling over 7 million copies.
- However, the remakes have also contributed almost $100 million through Steam sales alone.
2026 has been a year to remember for the Resident Evil franchise so far. Requiem, the ninth mainline entry in the series, turned out to be a massive commercial success for Capcom, going on to sell over 7 million copies since launch and becoming one of the highest-grossing releases on Steam in 2026.
The IP has contributed massively to Capcom’s incredible profitability, with the company recording a ninth consecutive year of profit thanks to Resident Evil Requiem. As it turns out, the previous entries in the series have also been selling like hotcakes in 2026.
Why it matters: Given how the franchise was almost at death’s door before Resident Evil 7, it’s a delight to see one of the most important IPs in the gaming world thrive in 2026.
A spooky @alineaanalytics estimates drop :
– Silent Hill Townfall has sold through (no unsold retail copies!) 404K copies (70.9% on PS5) since launching last month. It’s generated $20.2M. On PlayStation, 42.8% of the revenue came from discs – a high share that’s typical for… pic.twitter.com/fb0BvvhL6c

According to Alinea Analytics, the last five games in the Resident Evil franchise have collectively grossed $850 million across Steam, PlayStation, and Xbox this year. Requiem is largely responsible for these numbers, earning $211.3 million in 2026 from its Steam sales alone.
However, the back catalog has also contributed its fair share, with the remakes of Resident Evil 2,3, and 4 bringing in almost $100 million in revenue from Steam. The previous mainline entry, Village, has also grossed a respectable total this year from the platform, making $21.3 million.
The new Resident Evil film, which received positive reviews from both critics and fans, is a driving force behind this uptick in sales. The box office success and popularity of the movie brought a lot of new consumers to the franchise, and it seems like they are sticking around.

But these numbers aren’t surprising for a juggernaut like Resident Evil, which has sold over 200 million copies worldwide and accounts for 60% of its publisher’s overall sales on PC. With a remake of Code Veronica set to launch next year, in addition to a new DLC for Requiem, the IP is certainly not stopping anytime soon.
