- Xbox has introduced XP, a new division focused on expanding first-party franchises.
- The group aims to cover products, pictures, partnerships, and places tied to Xbox IP.
- The move suggests Microsoft wants more value from series like Minecraft, Halo, Fallout, etc.
Thanks to Asha Sharma’s latest initiatives for Xbox, the gaming giant has returned to the right track.
The CEO has also outlined other measures for the future, including a focus on Battle.net. Moreover, Xbox is set to introduce an entirely new division called XP as part of its push for first-party IPs.
Why it matters: Following the return to exclusivity, Xbox is placing a great deal of emphasis on its first-party IPs, particularly when looking at expansion opportunities for the future.

The new XP division is built around taking Xbox-owned properties into more areas of entertainment and consumer products. This division is, therefore, described as covering products, pictures, partnerships, and places.
Kayleen Walters from Mojang has been appointed the XP President, which is interesting since she brings over a decade of experience working with Lucasfilm on Star Wars.
As per Xbox Chief Strategy Officer Matthew Ball, the company ultimately aims to become the biggest in the world when it comes to entertainment as a whole. In particular, XP is aiming to recreate the success of recent adaptations like Fallout across other IPs like Call of Duty, Gears of War, Halo, etc.
Note that franchises like Halo have already received adaptations in the past, but XP will lead to a renewed focus on this element.

Because recent adaptations like Sonic, Mario, The Last of Us, etc. have shown so much potential, Xbox’s initiatives in this department will be very interesting to follow. Perhaps the gaming giant will see more interest in dormant IPs with the right push.
