Resident Evil is Capcom’s biggest franchise of all time, and arguably the most popular horror franchise in general. It has had consistent quality releases over the years, and this year was no different with Resident Evil Requiem. 

Its sales have also been top-notch: a new report reveals that 6 Resident Evil games sold over 3 million copies in the year from mid-2025 through mid-2026. The numbers are exceptional for games from a single franchise. 

Why it matters: Resident Evil has become such a popular name that it could even be included in Mount Rushmore sculptures of the most famous gaming franchises of all time.

Game File’s report reveals that 6 Resident Evil games sold over 3 million copies each in the last year alone. These include: 

• RE Requiem 
• RE2 Remake 
• RE3 Remake
• RE4 Remake 
• RE7 Biohazard
• RE8 Village

Requiem would obviously be here since it was among the best releases of 2026, has reportedly already sold over 8.5 million copies, and is the fastest-selling game of the series in that time period. 

Additionally, it is really impressive to see RE7 still boasting so many sales. It was kind of the game that brought the franchise back into its prime after a couple of missteps with games like Resident Evil 6, and more. 

RE4 Remake is obviously considered one of the best games in the series, and the other remakes helped it reach that point. Capcom isn’t slowing down either, as it plans to release its next remake, Resident Evil Veronica, next year.
