Apple delved into the world of AAA games with the iPhone 15 Pro, and although initial results weren’t the most impressive, the gaming giant has come a long way since then.
The iPhone 17 Pro showed major leaps in gaming performance, and the iPhone 18 Pro has once again marked a significant jump for Apple’s gaming endeavors. In fact, tests show that the iPhone 18 Pro can handle Resident Evil 4 Remake remarkably well.
Why it matters: Modern smartphones are extremely capable, allowing them to handle AAA games in many instances.
Testing by Dame Tech shows that Resident Evil 4 Remake comfortably runs at 2346×1080 on the iPhone 18 Pro.
Testing at this resolution with a mix of medium and low settings led to the game running at a mostly locked 60 FPS. In fact, the results marked a nearly 50% performance jump over the last-generation iPhone 17 Pro.
The iPhone 18 Pro also ran Assassin’s Creed Mirage particularly well, delivering a locked 30FPS experience at 1320p and high settings. Note that the game is locked to this frame rate on the iPhone, so it could not be pushed any further.
All in all, these results show just how big of an upgrade Apple’s A20 Pro SoC marks for gaming. Even compared to last year’s A19 Pro, the company has managed to deliver a worthwhile jump in performance.
Interestingly enough, the video also confirms that the A20 Pro SoC has performed beyond Apple’s claims of a 40% difference in terms of performance uplifts over the previous iPhone.
Although Apple doesn’t seem to be focusing as much on AAA games anymore, the iPhone 18 Pro’s upgraded SoC could become the catalyst for more AAA titles making their way to the platform.
It will also be interesting to see how other games like Death Stranding perform on the new smartphone.
