Remedy Entertainment is among the most consistent studios in the industry. It is one of the few that isn’t afraid to take any risks, and unfortunately doesn’t record as massive sales as some other bigger names, but it delivers quality. Control Resonant was just released and opened to 3x the players of the original on Steam. The first game peaked at around 10K players, while the sequel already had over 30K. Additionally, it has very positive reviews. Why it matters: The title garnered massive attention as it felt like a completely different game from its predecessor and a very unique take with wonderful gameplay and a wonderfully crafted open world. Control Resonant has opened to 34K players on Steam, which is impressive considering Remedy Entertainment games don’t garner too many players. It is also the 2nd best-seller on Steam, and among the top sellers on the PS Store. Most of the reviews say it is a masterpiece and among the studio’s best work yet. It doesn’t have a similarly overwhelmingly positive reception as Alan Wake 2, but it seems to be selling a lot better than that. Also, the budget is reportedly around $50-60 million, which is a fraction of what most modern studios spend on a full-blown AAA project. It also costs just $60 and is expected to require around 2.5 million sales to break even. What are your thoughts on Control Resonant opening to over 3x the players of the original game?
