Just as the plans for the studio closure were revealed, Xbox trademarked Senua, suggesting that they want to keep the IP alive despite closing Ninja Theory. This means that the Hellblade franchise might not be over. Why it matters: The franchise has had a very decent overall reception, but the studio had kind of become a liability for Xbox. They had only delivered 2 games in the last 8 years, which means that a threat was always looming. Xbox filed a trademark at the EUIPO for Senua and announced the closure of Ninja Theory. There are no other details on the page, which doesn’t clarify much, but it means Senua’s development might be handed to someone else. We’ve already seen that Microsoft is shaking things up majorly, as it has moved Halo under Activision.
