A Well-Done Multiplayer Mode Could Make The New StarCraft Even Better!

Story Highlight
  • StarCraft is expected to have a full-fledged multiplayer mode.
  • Blizzard has opened multiple job listings that seek experience in multiplayer and online systems.
  • One of the job listings also wants the hiree to have experience in developing live-service titles.

This year’s BlizzCon was a blast for the fans of the studio, as it saw the announcement of Diablo 5 and a whole new StarCraft game over 15 years since the last title. The new game is steering away from its RTS roots and will instead be an open-world FPS experience.

It appears that Blizzard is also planning some sort of online multiplayer mode for StarCraft, as the company has opened at least 21 new job listings for the project. Most of these listings aim for developers who have experience in multiplayer systems or live-service games.

Why it matters: Blizzard is likely aiming to have a separate multiplayer mode for StarCraft, as it is hiring staff that have experience with online multiplayer and live-service titles. However, the game also intends to focus on its single-player narrative-driven campaign.

As can be seen in the images above, multiple new StarCraft job listings on the Blizzard website seek developers who can work on multiplayer gameplay systems. Such as a listing for a senior combat designer requiring experience in ‘live-service titles.’

Other job listings mention StarCraft as if it’s going to be a live or ongoing, seasonal title.

The former Far Cry boss Dan Hay is leading StarCraft. He clarified in an interview that the FPS will be a boxed experience with a narrative-driven campaign where players create a marine and follow their story.

StarCraft will also have a deep focus on a narrative-driven campaign.

Blizzard is hesitant to confirm a dedicated multiplayer mode for StarCraft just yet, but we will learn more over the years as the game targets a 2030 release window.
