- Xbox has introduced limited hours with its Cloud Gaming, depending on the Game Pass tier.
- Game Pass Ultimate users will get maximum hours capped at 15, with others having even less.
- If you run out of hours, you can buy additional playtime from the Xbox store.
The digital-only future of the gaming industry is the hottest topic these days. Sony was the first to eliminate discs, and while Xbox hasn’t explicitly said it will follow, industry analysts believe the company will do the same.
One aspect of the digital future is cloud gaming, and Xbox has been the biggest advocate for it. However, it has announced that, amid growing costs, it is restricting the number of hours you can stream based on your plan.
Why it matters: While Xbox Cloud gaming isn’t the most popular, it still can be really great in certain scenarios, and restricting the play time to a specific number of hours doesn’t sound like the right move.
Microsoft switches to monthly hour limits in big changes to Xbox Cloud Gaming, cites rising cloud costs:

▪️Game Pass Premium: 10 hours
▪️Game Pass Essential: 5 hoursOnce subscribers use up their hours, they can buy additional cloud playtime… pic.twitter.com/EDKXhFX2Yc

Microsoft has confirmed fixed timings for Cloud gaming based on your Game Pass tiers. They are as follows:
- Game Pass Ultimate: 15 hours
- Game Pass Premium: 10 hours
- Game Pass Essential: 5 hours
Additionally, if you run out of your hours, you can buy additional playtime through the Xbox Store. But since the service isn’t already too mainstream, hardly anyone will care for it now more than ever.

At this point, cloud gaming already feels like a lost cause. It does provide a lot of accessibility to those who don’t have access to dedicated PCs, but its availability and requirements are just too restricted.
