- CDPR says console pricing is an “objective challenge,” but strong games still drive demand.
- The team will prioritize consoles for The Witcher 4 and has no plans to ignore this market.
- CD Projekt Red also says that consoles help broaden the market with casual players.
Although CDPR has sold millions of copies of its games on PC, the studio continues to move forward with The Witcher 4’s development while prioritizing all platforms. This means that consoles remain an important part of the equation for the team.
In fact, co-CEO Michael Nowakowski says that consoles will continue to drive growth for the industry.
Why it matters: Console gaming has become more expensive over the years, and the next generation is expected to cost close to $1000, which may limit players severely.
CD Projekt Red is not backing away from consoles for The Witcher 4, despite growing concerns about hardware prices and the long-term appeal of dedicated gaming systems.
Speaking to The Game Business, CDPR co-CEO Michal Nowakowski pointed to this market as an important part of its core business. He admitted that the plug-and-play experience makes consoles incredibly valuable.
Consoles are still necessary to broaden the audience on the casual or semi-casual level.
The co-CEO also acknowledged that console prices are an “objective challenge.” However, he argued that content remains the main driver for players, suggesting that great games can still keep console audiences engaged.
As per Michal Nowakowski, the team will prioritize whichever platform players are on once The Witcher 4 arrives. As such, even if next-gen plans are delayed, the team will meet player demand.

Elsewhere, the team has recently addressed concerns regarding The Witcher 4 skipping a physical release, noting that it would at least offer codes in a box.
