The Witcher 4 Fans Have Doubts Already!

Story Highlight
  • Fans are questioning whether The Witcher 4 will launch with a physical edition.
  • The game arrives in 2028, falling in the window after PlayStation’s plan to move on from discs.
  • Many are also concerned that the game won’t support discs on Xbox either.

CDPR has finally confirmed a release target for The Witcher 4, giving fans around 2 years to look forward to the title. However, because this release window will arrive after PlayStation’s planned disc cancellation, fans have expressed new concerns.

Indeed, many fans are questioning whether The Witcher 4 will receive a physical release at all.

Why it matters: Many fans enjoy buying collector’s editions and special physical releases for their favorite titles, so millions were looking forward to doing the same for The Witcher 4.

The Witcher 4 Fans Are Sharing Their Concerns on Twitter

Although CDPR has not announced a digital-only launch for The Witcher 4, fans are already worried. This is because PlayStation will not make any physical games after January 2028.

Because many fans of The Witcher series belong to the enthusiast crowd that enjoys collecting physical games, many are currently expressing their disappointment at this news. Fans also have little faith in Xbox pursuing a physical release, largely due to the digital-focused nature of the platform.

Of course, CDPR is not to blame here, and it would be unrealistic to expect the team to aim for a January 2028 release solely to appease fans of physical games. Perhaps the team could partner with a company like Limited Run Games for a disc-based release at some point, but none of that is guaranteed for now.

As it stands, The Witcher 4 will almost certainly skip a physical release, at least on its two biggest platforms.

Whether Xbox will support a disc-based release remains a mystery for now. As mentioned earlier, Xbox has been pro-digital gaming for a while, largely due to Game Pass and the “Xbox Everywhere” initiative.

What are your thoughts on The Witcher 4 being a digital-only release? Let’s discuss in the comments.
