A new report claims that the global games market is expected to generate $213.9 billion by the end of 2026. The GTA 6 launch is being touted as the biggest driver of this market expansion, as it will fuel a massive 17.5% surge in full-game spending alone.
Why it matters: Analysts expect GTA 6 to shake the entire gaming industry with immaculate sales performance and reception, significantly driving full-game spending and console sales to reinforce its role as 2026’s most defining release.

These details come from the Newzoo Global Games Market 2026 report, which claims that the industry will grow by 6.1% YoY. The US and China together will account for over half of global consumer spending.
GTA 6 is expected to deliver the strongest growth to the games market among all other business models, as it will significantly lift full-game spending and console sales in the last two months of 2026.
In terms of platforms, mobile is expected to boast the largest share at $121.1 billion (57%) as the fastest-growing segment. The console market will secure $46.9 billion (22%), which has gone up by 5.1% YoY.
Meanwhile, the PC market is expected to have the lowest market share, with only $45.9 billion (21%). The platform will grow only by 5.3% YoY, down from its yearly 12% annual compound growth rate estimate for 2025.
Global players across these platforms are also seeing steady growth. The number will reach 3.70 billion this year and go up to 4.07 billion players by 2029, according to current market projections.
The Middle East and Africa are the fastest-growing regions in terms of revenue and players, while Asia-Pacific remains the largest market.
