- Mackenzie Patrick, who was part of the Concord team, is currently working on Marvel’s Wolverine as a character artist.
- Patrick is giving creative direction while doing concept art and 3D modelling for the game.
- The Insomniac title is receiving criticism online for its unusual character models.
Despite anticipation around Marvel’s Wolverine, the title has been facing an undercurrent of criticism on social media. Following the first major gameplay reveal, fans online bashed the title for its formulaic gameplay that doesn’t reimagine or freshen up the formula seen in previous Insomniac titles.
The criticism has been so bad that Insomniac’s head of communications called it an onslaught on the mental health of developers. Besides the gameplay, the character designs in Marvel’s Wolverine have also been under scrutiny, and a new reveal suggests that a Sony live-service flop might be to blame.
Why it matters: Considering how much criticism Concord and its unusual character models received from every corner of the gaming community, going down the same route for Marvel’s Wolverine is equivalent to shooting yourself in the foot.

Insomniac Games hired the same character artist who worked on the live-service flop Concord to develop Marvel’s Wolverine. Mackenzie Patrick, who joined Insomniac in February 2025, was employed for over two years by Concord developer Firewalk Studios as a character artist before being let go in November 2024, two months after Sony shut down the game.
According to the artist’s LinkedIn profile, Patrick is currently working on concept development, art, and 3D Modelling, while giving creative direction on the character models in Marvel’s Wolverine. Considering how even God of War creator David Jaffe panned the character design in Concord, it isn’t surprising that the Insomniac title is getting the same treatment.
Fans online are criticizing the unusual sheen of the characters in Marvel’s Wolverine, with Mystique especially getting singled out by gamers. Logan’s face has also been bashed by several fans, with many calling the babyface design from Insomniac weird and off-putting for the character.
With previews already suggesting that Marvel’s Wolverine isn’t doing anything to move the needle besides solid gameplay, it will be interesting to see how many players the Insomniac title can attract next month.
