Story Highlight
  • Dave Bautista is currently in talks to play Kratos in Prime Video’s upcoming God of War TV Show.
  • Bautista would be replacing Ryan Hurst as the lead, who lost the role to a bicep injury.
  • If all goes well, the show would resume shooting soon, possibly during the winter period.

Amazon Prime’s upcoming God of War TV Show has seen some bumps, as Kratos’ actor, Ryan Hurst, tore his biceps and, following a long recovery process, the showrunners have been prompted to recast the role.

As Amazon is looking to find a new actor to fill the role of the Ghost of Sparta, famous WWE wrestler-turned-actor Dave Bautista might be their choice.

Why it matters: While Ryan Hurst looked like an interesting choice to be cast as Kratos, it was unfortunate that he suffered an on-set injury that threw off the whole filming process; however, Dave Bautista’s as Kratos will work just as well, as he fits the Ghost of Sparta’s physical appearance and menace.

Bautista Still Looks Ripped Despite Shedding Off A Few Pounds Of Weight

As per Variety, Dave Bautista is currently under talks to replace Ryan Hurst. Finding a new actor in such a short time period was a difficult task in the first place to avoid delaying filming any further, but Bautista seems perfectly well suited to play Kratos.

Standing at 6’4 and 109KGs/240 pounds, Bautista is already in shape to play Kratos with minimal training required to get the filming process back on track. Certainly, this would be a shorter time frame than waiting for Ryan Hurst’s injury to heal, which would take 4-6 months and more time to gain back muscle mass.

It is unfortunate because Prime had already shot 4 episodes of the God of War TV show, and shooting it again with a newer actor, while accounting for the time wasted in between, will likely delay the show’s airing by around a year.

Anyhow, preparations for Season 2 are already underway, and as per the casting call, the next season will take place after a time skip where Atreus will be a teenager akin to how he was in God of War Ragnarok.

Counting the TV Show, 2 new God of War games, and the remasters of the first three games, this makes 6 simultaneous projects from the franchise in the works right now.
