- Tomb Raider Catalyst, the next mainline entry in the series, has been delayed from 2027 to 2028.
- The game will launch after Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis, a remake of the first game.
- A 2028 release window means that it will not ship on disc, at least on PlayStation.
Tomb Raider Catalyst will no longer launch in 2027, adding another year to the wait for Lara Croft’s next mainline adventure. Following the exciting announcement of two Tomb Raider games, the delay appears to have been disclosed quietly rather than through a dedicated announcement.
Why it matters: Tomb Raider Catalyst is a major release for Crystal Dynamics and Amazon Games, but the lengthy delay and lack of a physical edition may frustrate fans.
A new video interview confirms Tomb Raider Catalyst is now scheduled for 2028. Amazon Games boss Jeff Gattis shared this release window in a new interview with The Game Business.
Although neither Amazon Games nor Crystal Dynamics has provided a detailed explanation for why the project needs additional development time, it is believed that this move is related to Amazon Luna and a focus on the company’s streaming service.
The good news is that this will only help Crystal Dynamics polish Tomb Raider Catalyst further before its release. However, the 2028 release timeline also means that the game will arrive after PlayStation moves on from disc production.
This means that Tomb Raider Catalyst might be the first game in the series without a physical disc. Since Xbox is already focused on digital distribution, the game may be limited to a digital release on Xbox and other platforms as well.
We have announced the two Tomb Raider titles. Atlantis comes February 12 next year, and then we’ll follow on in 2028 with the next one.

Of course, there is the possibility that PlayStation might backtrack on its decision. However unlikely it may seem for now, this possibility cannot be completely ruled out. Anyhow, Tomb Raider fans must now wait just a bit more for the return of Lara Croft.
