007 First Light Discards Denuvo Less Than 2 Months After Launch

Denuvo Removed Unusually Quickly By IO Interactive!

Story Highlight
  • 007 First Light has removed Denuvo from its PC version.
  • The change arrives only two months after the James Bond game launched.
  • Games typically remove Denuvo after release, but IO Interactive has done so rather quickly.

007 First Light launched to a lot of excitement in May, and many are still praising the game. However, it also drew criticism for including Denuvo DRM on PC, a technology infamous among the PC audience.

Interestingly, IO Interactive has removed Denuvo just two months after the title first launched, marking a surprisingly quick reversal for IO Interactive’s much-appreciated James Bond game.

Why it matters: Denuvo is frequently criticized over potential performance overhead, online activation requirements, and game preservation. Its early removal gives PC players a less restrictive version of 007 First Light.

007 First Light Was Received Quite Well At Launch

As shared on Reddit, Denuvo was removed from 007 First Light earlier today. This change comes less than two full months after the game’s May 27 launch.

This is much faster because the protection remains attached to many major PC releases. Since Denuvo is primarily intended to protect launch-period sales by making unauthorized copies more difficult, the technology may have already served IO Interactive’s intended purpose.

Previously, the game was also criticized for its PC performance. Those informed about Denuvo would know that the DRM is commonly associated with performance hiccups, so its removal could potentially alleviate some fan concerns regarding the James Bond title.

Still, the game likely won’t immediately run a whole lot better on the platform. Moreover, the removal of the DRM could open it to a wider audience.

007 First Light Didn’t Run The Best on PC

In the days to come, comparisons may also show up between 007 First Light’s previous and current builds. This has been the case with other titles before, since many have attempted to showcase how Denuvo hampers performance.
