- The Xbox Store just delisted multiple games, removing them from people’s libraries.
- This happened despite the massive ongoing debate if digital media is the way to go.
- Fans believe physical is better, as they don’t have any ownership over digital games.
The end of physical media is the most heated debate in the industry right now. Sony announced that it would be going all digital starting in 2028, and none of its new releases after that will be released on a disc, sparking huge backlash.
Amid the ongoing debate, Xbox has now delisted multiple games from its stores, essentially removing them from players’ libraries who paid for them. This raises a huge concern as digital games are just a revocable license.
Why it matters: Physical media gives you the advantage of ownership. Since you have the disc on you, you know it won’t be going anywhere, but with the digital-only system, that sort of security totally goes away.

Microsoft has removed three titles: Creepy Tale, Creepy Tale 2, and StrikeForce Kitty from the Xbox Store. While these aren’t essentially major titles, imagine spending money, and your games suddenly vanish for no reason.
This could also stand true for more expensive titles or even whole game libraries in the future, especially now that we are headed towards an all-digital future. Fans have been furious at this and want answers.

Since the digital games are revocable, you never know when they disappear. Fans have demanded that companies assure them of ownership in some way, face severe backlash, or keep the physical media alive.
Now, this trend isn’t entirely the companies’ fault. We’ve seen the audience move more and more towards digital as physical game sales have faltered quite a lot. So, this encourages the likes of Xbox and Sony to pave their digital path ahead.
