- Sony once again highlighted the importance of utilising AI in its annual report.
- The company thinks it will help unleash the true creative potential of PlayStation.
- AI will be used to push visual fidelity forward, automate repetitive tasks, and in other departments like quality assurance.
In today’s gaming industry, it feels like every third game releases with an AI disclaimer. Anticipated titles like Crazy Taxi World Tour, Modern Warfare 4, and Lies of P 2 are set to utilise the technology in one way or another.
On the other hand, gaming giants like Sony have publicly declared support for AI, highlighting how it will make game development a lot faster. As it turns out, the Japanese giant has once again emphasised its use of the technology, hinting that there is no turning back.
Why it matters: The gaming industry doubling down on AI was something many could foresee from the start. However, it remains to be seen if the technology will only be used for repetitive tasks.

In its annual report for FY 2025, Sony devoted an entire section to how AI is helping PlayStation evolve, saying that it will unleash the true creativity of the gaming giant.
The document states that Sony is implementing AI tools to automate repetitive workflows and improve productivity across various departments, including quality assurance, animation, and 3D modeling. This move will allow developers to focus on heavier creative tasks like gameplay and building richer worlds instead of performing repetitive duties.
The Japanese company also highlighted how AI will be used to personalise the PlayStation experience for consumers, helping them find the right content in this crowded landscape. In addition, Sony is investing in AI and machine learning to improve the visual fidelity of video games while delivering high-quality experiences.

All in all, the company’s primary goal with the technology is to enhance the player experience, making PlayStation centered on the consumer while letting the creative juices flow. With fellow Japanese companies Sega and Capcom also utilising AI, it seems like the region is going to employ these tools to accelerate game development.
