- A new report reveals that Microsoft wanted Activision to help boost Xbox sales.
- However, Black Ops 7 failed to deliver the expectations, so the hopes fell short.
- Now, the upcoming Call of Duty Modern Warfare 4 could be the series’ big comeback.
Microsoft’s acquisition of Activision Blizzard was perhaps the most significant merger in the gaming industry, granting the company rights to Call of Duty. A lot was riding on the franchise’s back, but it hasn’t managed to deliver.
According to a new report, Microsoft was betting on Activision to help boost Xbox sales; however, the latest release, Call of Duty Black Ops 7, fell short of expectations and sales, so they couldn’t get the results they had hoped for.
Why it matters: The massive impact of Battlefield 6 had a lot to do with the poor performance. Additionally, Activision also gets the blame as fans complain they’ve been delivering the same repackaged game each year.

Windows Central reports that Microsoft had a lot of expectations from Activision to help boost Xbox sales, but they fell short. This is due to the weak Call of Duty performance, which they had hoped would be much better.
The FPS franchise is something you can put a bet on to help you succeed, but while it has its loyal fan base, the quality has been deteriorating with no meaningful changes, which is leading to players moving away from it.

Now, the latest incoming title, Modern Warfare 4, seems like the right way forward for the franchise. It has finally given up on last-gen support and seems to be integrating elements fans had been requesting for years.
