It Seems Like Infinity Ward Is Indeed Listening To Fan Feedback.

Story Highlight
  • Call of Duty Modern Warfare 4’s campaign will be playable offline without internet.
  • This marks a departure from the last two games in the series, as they required an internet connection.
  • Players couldn’t even pause Black Ops 7 because of the always-online requirement.

After being completely overshadowed by its competitors last year, Call of Duty is taking another shot at redemption in 2026. Activision has officially revealed Modern Warfare 4, and fan reaction to the game has been surprisingly positive so far.

Set in South Korea, the upcoming title is being developed by Infinity Ward, with the studio insisting that this entry will be the definitive version of Modern Warfare. From the looks of it, the developers are actually listening to fan feedback, as the shooting game will discard a heavily criticised feature of Black Ops 7.

Why it matters: Call of Duty is renowned for its offline campaigns, and they are arguably the biggest reason for its rise in popularity. Hence, going back to its roots is a good move by Activision.

Modern Warfare 4 is bringing back the offline campaigns players wanted.

As reported by Insider Gaming, Call of Duty Modern Warfare 4’s campaign will be playable without a constant internet connection. This is the first time in 2 years that a Call of Duty campaign will be available offline, as both Black Ops 6 and Black Ops 7 had an always-online requirement.

Both of these titles were slammed by fans because of this feature, as you could lose your progress in the campaign if your console or PC lost connection. Black Ops 7 made it even worse, with the gameplay continuing in the background when players paused the title, rendering the features useless.

However, Modern Warfare 4 is going back to the franchise’s roots by making campaigns available offline like they always have been. Activision promised changes to Call of Duty following the abysmal sales of Black Ops 7 last year, and this improvement is a good start.

Black Ops 7 User Score Metacritic
Black Ops 7 was criticised by fans as it made an internet connection mandatory for the campaign.

Modern Warfare 4 will also skip last-generation consoles like PS4 and Xbox One, instead releasing on Nintendo Switch 2 and marking the IP’s return to the platform. With a fresh reboot of the series also on the way, it looks like Activision has learned its lesson after the franchise underperformed in 2025.
