Steam Machine Review Samples Have Reportedly Started Rolling Out, Suggesting An Imminent Release

Movement around the Steam Machine is heating up!

Story Highlight

  • New leak suggests review samples of the Steam Machine may be rolling out.
  • This lines up with Valve’s claims that the Steam Machine will launch this summer.
  • Valve’s import movements further provide unofficial confirmation.

The Steam Machine may FINALLY be close to launch, as new leaked photos suggest that review units have started rolling out. According to X user Steam Hardware Updates, who has been closely tracking Valve’s movements, third-party reviewers have started receiving Steam Machine samples, which signals that the launch may be closer than ever.

Now, the enclosed photos are a bit cryptic, but we can see parts of a box that is supposed to be the official packaging for the Steam Machine. The account goes on to say that the official price for the Steam Machine may be announced between June 22 and June 30, while creator embargoes are expected to be lifted after June 23.

While there is no way to verify that information without Valve’s announcement, the dates do roughly line up with Valve’s previous statements. The company has strongly hinted that the Steam Machine is coming “this summer” and that the global memory crisis delayed the Steam Machine as well as the Steam Frame. This is also why the Steam Controller was launched as a standalone product, since it didn’t require any RAM.

David Heaney of UploadVR was quick to debunk the report of review seeding, claiming that these boxes have been on display at Valve headquarters for several months now. This is plausible, since the Steam Machine was delayed several times, so the company likely developed the packaging months in advance.

However, all signs point to the Steam Machine launching within the next month or so. Several shipping manifests have indicated a literal boatload of game consoles and VR headsets being imported into the United States, which directly correlates with the two products Valve is releasing this summer. Another X user has tracked Steam Frame imports arriving at Valve’s USA warehouses via the ImportYeti website.

Therefore, even though the photos of these supposed “review samples” are a bit hard to believe right now, other signs all but confirm that we will have the Steam Machine in our hands before the end of the summer.
