4K Resolution, VRR, 60 FPS And More For Current-Gen Consoles!

Story Highlight
  • Bethesda has finally started testing the updated Fallout 76 on the PS5 and Xbox Series.
  • The version will come with enhanced 4K visuals, VRR, and 60 FPS across the board.
  • It will first launch as a test, but will finally be launched later this summer.

In 2018, Bethesda released its only mainstream multiplayer Fallout title in the franchise, Fallout 76. The game initially went off to a bad start due to bugs and technical issues, but over the years, fans have gone on to love the title

Until now, the only way Fallout 76 was playable on current-gen consoles was through backward compatibility; however, Bethesda has now announced that it is starting testing an updated version for PS5 and Xbox Series X|S.

Why it matters: Because the game is over 8 years old, it does show the test of time, and a native version for current-gen consoles means that we could see an influx of new players jumping into the post-apocalyptic world.

Bethesda confirms tests for Fallout 76 on current-gen consoles

Bethesda revealed patch notes for a new update along with playtests for Fallout 76 on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. It’s not a remaster, but it will provide meaningful upgrades like 60 FPS across the board, and VRR and 4K visuals where supported.

The test game will be available to players across the systems, and once it’s over, it is planned to be eventually released later this summer. Notably, 4K will be available with PS5 Pro, Xbox Series, and One X, but not with PS5.

The title was previously only playable through backward compatibility

Instead, the base users will be upgraded to 1440p resolution. Fallout 76 wasn’t that popular when it released, but with the release of Amazon’s show, it saw a surge in popularity, helping it reach over 20 million players.
