- PlayStation recently introduced a new DRM that can lock users out of digital games.
- The move has attracted heavy backlash, and fans have even called for a boycott.
- GameStop has also roasted the company and urged users to move to physical.
PlayStation recently imposed a new absurd DRM that makes players lose access to their digital games if they don’t log in for 30 days. This is being called out and rightfully attracting a lot of backlash.
GameStop has roasted PlayStation in a recent post and called them out for the DRM. Additionally, their gaming store has urged players to actually take ownership of their games by going towards physical only.
Why it matters: There is no denying the accessibility of digital games, but it makes no sense to get them now, when you’re essentially paying a hefty $70 for a AAA title and still not owning it.

In a post on X, GameStop mocked PlayStation by writing “Play really has no limits at GameStop”, urging users to move completely towards physical media and abandon digital amid the controversy.
This move has also attracted widespread backlash from the community. Fans have even threatened to boycott digital completely and file a class action lawsuit against the gaming giants for unfair tactics.

What makes this situation even worse is that Sony was among the loudest to call this out when Xbox did the same thing back in the day. However, now the company is doing exactly that, and isn’t even addressing it all.
