For The First Time In Three Years, Starfield Was The Best-Selling Game In The US Thanks To PS5

PS5 Accounted For 95% Of Starfield Sales During This Week.

Story Highlight
  • Starfield was the best-selling title in the US during its PS5 launch week.
  • The console accounted for 95% of the RPGs’ sales during this time period.
  • This is also the first time the RPG has topped the charts since its initial launch in September 2023.

Starfield started in a promising manner on the PS5, flying to the top of the pre-order charts ahead of console-exclusive Saros. However, the title was hit with a flurry of technical issues after launching. The space RPG was crashing so frequently that players started refunding the game.

Unsurprisingly, Starfield suffered due to the buggy nature of the port, not even debuting in the top 10 of the PlayStation Store downloads chart. However, the Bethesda game still sold reasonably well, as according to an analyst, it was the best-selling title in the US during its PS5 launch week.

Why it matters: Starfield could have caught a second wind if Microsoft had paid attention to optimising the PS5 port, as the demand was clearly there.

As per Mat Piscatella, Starfield was the highest-selling video game in the United States for the week ending April 11th, 2026. After accounting for both digital and physical sales, the space RPG topped the Circana Retail charts with respect to overall Dollar revenue.

This is the first time in almost three years that Starfield has been the best-selling game in the country. The last time Bethesda’s title topped the charts was in the first week of September 2023, when the game initially launched.

Furthermore, this is the RPG’s fourth biggest sales week in the country since release, with only its first three weeks on the market beating out the sales performance on PS5. According to Piscatella, the PS5 also accounted for 95% of Starfield’s Dollar sales during the week.

Starfield
The RPG suffered from game-breaking bugs on the console.

Considering how initial estimates revealed that the title only sold about 140k units on the console, this result is a little surprising. However, even with its game-breaking issues, it seems like Starfield has produced a respectable output on the PS5 despite launching 3 years after its initial release.
