The Game Is Now Playable But Still Years Away!

Story Highlight
  • Recent Bethesda games like Starfield were criticized for giving up on the classic formula.
  • Todd Howard has confirmed that The Elder Scrolls 6 does follow Skyrim and Fallout’s style.
  • He says they acknowledge the issues and are rectifying them for TES 6.

The Elder Scrolls 6 was announced 7 years ago at this point. Since then, Bethesda has released multiple titles that gave up on the formula it used for its classic games, in favor of something new, which hasn’t sat well with the fans.

Amid fears that The Elder Scrolls 6 will be the same, Bethesda’s boss has confirmed that the title is based on the classic style of the studio’s hits like Skyrim and older Fallout games, which they know really well.

Why it matters: Recent Bethesda games, especially Starfield, weren’t received too well. They gave up on the usual formula and, in trying to do something new, lost their identity, making fans lose interest.

There is a lot of skepticism around The Elder Scrolls 6, considering Bethesda hasn’t had the best of reputations lately. Todd Howard says they took a bit of a creative detour, but that won’t be happening now.

In many ways, Fallout 76 and Starfield are a little bit of a creative detour. We are coming back to that classic style that we’ve missed [For TES6], that we know really, really well.

Instead, the next installment in their flagship franchise is sticking to its roots, opting for the classic Bethesda formula. This is promising news, because if it’s anywhere as good as Skyrim, it’ll be a huge win for the fans.

Howard also shared that Elder Scrolls 6 has achieved a big milestone and is now in a playable state. However, he also reiterated that it could still be many years away before we see the final game launch.
