- Mass Effect 5 could be several years away due to the failure of Dragon Age: Veilguard.
- Mike Darrah says BioWare is now a one-project studio, which is a positive change.
- It will help them put full focus on Mass Effect 5, but it’s still a long way to go.
BioWare was once a name synonymous with great quality titles led by the Dragon Age and Mass Effect franchises. Years later, the studio has fallen from grace with its recent titles like Anthem and Dragon Age: The Veilguard failing miserably.
A former Anthem producer has weighed in on the current situation of the studio and says that Veilguard’s failure has delayed Mass Effect 5. The studio is currently going through a tough phase, so it isn’t coming out soon.
Why it matters: Both Veilguard and Anthem had huge expectations riding on them, but both failed to hit the mark, which led to layoffs and even led to the looming threat that BioWare might be shut down for good.
Anthem was officially released in 2019, and the initial trailer promised a lot. The end product was a bland game with just good flight mechanics. Dragon Age: The Veilguard was in development for years, but still failed.
Mass Effect 5 is going to be a long time after Dragon Age: The Veilguard, but BioWare has become a one-project studio, which is a positive sign.
– Mike Darrah

These things have caused issues at BioWare that they just can’t seem to get out of. The team has now become a “one-project studio” at a time, which Mike Darrah believes is a positive sign and could help them with Mass Effect.
However, based on recent years, Darrah says that Mass Effect 5 is many years away after Dragon Age: The Veilguard. He says BioWare used to focus on many projects at a time, which led to a drop in quality, and that is different now.
