Xbox has been reevaluating its business strategy while keeping the competition in mind. At the heart of Microsoft’s plans is Game Pass, the subscription service that offers AAA releases from launch.

This service found incredible growth in the beginning but has since slowed down. An analyst, however, believes that Microsoft’s dedication to the service will result in the gaming giant reaching 200 million subscribers within a decade.

Why it matters: Game Pass has a total of 34 million subscribers, so it would need to grow by around six times to achieve the analyst’s projected figures.

This estimate comes from Michael Pachter, an analyst who was among the few who always expected the Activision Blizzard merger to go through, even when the odds looked slim.

He commented on Microsoft’s latest figures, stating that he would be willing to bet on 200 million subscribers being achievable for Xbox Game Pass.

In the next 10 years, it will be up to 200 million.

To reach the 200 million milestone, Xbox Game Pass would need 166 million more users. No one knows what could happen in the next ten years, so we are not ruling out the possibility of this happening.

However, Microsoft would need significant growth spurts to get anywhere near this figure in this timeframe.

Xbox Game Pass Growth Has Already Slowed Down 

Currently, Microsoft’s plans revolve around bigger releases on the service. It has already launched games like Diablo 4 on the subscription, and Call of Duty is expected to launch in Game Pass starting in 2024.

As of now, Game Pass is still trailing behind PS Plus, even though Sony doesn’t release its AAA games on day one. This is mainly due to the difference in sales for both consoles. 

So, if Microsoft wants to grow its numbers, the company would need to come up with a plan to sell more consoles in the future. Xbox is reportedly aiming to release two next-gen consoles and a handheld in 2026, which could be a game changer.

However, the future remains a mystery for the time being.
