87/100 Score on Metacritic!

Story Highlight
  • Dragon’s Dogma 2 reviews have begun to come out.
  • The initial batch has been highly positive, landing the game at a score of 87/100.
  • The RPG has been highly praised for its brutal world, outstanding exploration, flashy combat, and much more.

After nearly 12 years of Dragon’s Dogma, the franchise is finally returning with the second game, and it appears that the developers have done an impressive job in modernizing the series.

Dragon’s Dogma 2 became Steam’s second best-seller recently. As Capcom’s first $70 title, the RPG has shown incredible pre-release buzz, and with only two days left, the initial reviews are now coming out.

Dragon’s Dogma 2 has not failed to impress the critics, earning a score of 87/100 on Metacritic after the first 52 critic reviews.

Why it matters: The first entry of this IP had a much lower score at 75/100. Therefore, it seems Capcom’s sequel is on a whole new level.

A few of the review scores are listed below.

  • GamingBolt – 10/10
  • TheSixthAxis – 10/10
  • MP1st – 9.5/10
  • TechRaptor – 8.5/10
  • IGN – 8/10
  • VGC – 5/5

It should also be noted that this is not the final score since more critics are still sharing their reviews, so the score is subject to change.

However, it appears that most have had a fantastic time with the RPG. The game has been highly praised for its world, which is always encouraging since this is an essential part of any RPG.

The world of Dragon’s Dogma 2 is filled with stories. While some of them have been told in the main plot, others are left out in the wide for players to discover. Elsewhere, elements like the combat have also been praised.

Dragon’s Dogma 2 has taken everything from its predecessor and improved it to bring us one of the best RPGs of the year. However, it does not do enough to convince those who did not enjoy the first game.

Dragon’s Dogma 2 Pushes Capcom’s Engine To Its Limits

Additionally, the performance has received universal criticism. Whether it be on PC or consoles, Capcom’s RPG is unable to hold a consistent frame rate, proving to be extremely taxing for all CPUs.

This was already a concern after Capcom confirmed a 30FPS target for consoles, and it seems to have been proven accurate.

Nonetheless, these problems have not impacted the bottom line much. Some have even called it the best RPG since Elden Ring, setting expectations high for the March 22 release date.
