Among the recent slew of successful games like Palworld and Helldivers 2, two live service contenders have seemingly failed to hit the mark this year.
Ubisoft’s Skull and Bones and Warner Bros’ Suicide Squad: Kill The Justice League launched in a similar genre with little anticipation. However, stats show Skull and Bones is doing even worse than Suicide Squad.
Why it matters: Ubisoft positioned this live service release as one of its ‘AAAA’ titles. However, it seems this badge has done little to help the game avoid a troubling fate.
Despite Ubisoft’s claims of the game hitting record player engagement, a report from Forbes hints that it has not faired well against equally disappointing competition.
Suicide Squad debuted as the most-played game on PlayStation, but Skull and Bones barely managed to crack the top 10. In addition, the PlayStation Blog has revealed complete sales data for February.
Despite its drawbacks, Suicide Squad stayed at the 3rd position among the best-selling games for the month in the US/Canada region. However, Skull and Bones is found much lower on the list at the 8th spot.
Meanwhile, both games have already gone through major discounts, hinting at the less-than-stellar performance.
It is no secret that Suicide Squad has lost players incredibly fast on PC. However, Skull and Bones is not available on Steam, making it difficult to compare numbers on this platform.
A report from Tom Henderson previously stated that Ubisoft failed to reach 1 million players across all platforms despite offering a free eight-hour trial.
The results from the ‘AAAA’ game are poor in this comparison. Both publishers had high hopes for these releases, but it seems neither has made a dent in the live service market.
Unfortunately for Skull and Bones, it seems to be falling behind Suicide Squad despite building off the incredibly popular Assassin’s Creed 4: Black Flag.
