Skull and Bones Price Already Cut By 30% 2 Weeks After Launch

AAAA Price No Longer!

Story Highlight
  • Skull and Bones has already received a steep price cut.
  • The game’s price has been reduced by retailers like BestBuy and Hit.
  • Even more discounts are expected soon.

Skull and Bones finally launched in February after a turbulent development, and Ubisoft appeared quite pleased with the results.

Boasting record engagement figures, the publisher seemed to have launched a worthy AAAA title, but retailers have already begun to discount Skull and Bones. Less than three full weeks after launch, the game has already been discounted by 30%.

Why it matters: Before launch, Ubisoft was confident in the $70 price tag, stating that this live-service title would justify the cost as the publisher’s latest AAAA release.

According to reports, the game is already down to $45. In addition to BestBuy, UK retailer Hit has cut the price. With a slightly smaller discount, Skull and Bones is being sold for as low as £49.85 on the website.

Not too long ago, Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League went through a similar price cut. However, Skull and Bones’ discount is even bigger, highlighting the fate of live-service titles that may not perform too well on the market.

Following the launch, some players have also expressed interest in refunds. Over time, it has become clear that pricing the game at $70 was not the wisest decision from Ubisoft.

Had the game launched for $40 or $50, it might have found a bigger audience.

For those who intend to play this live-service pirate adventure once it goes on further sales, Ubisoft is still providing an eight-hour trial. Furthermore, the game is part of the publisher’s subscription service.

Ubisoft is known for aggressive price cuts shortly after launch. Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora, another $70 AAAA title, was discounted similarly, falling to $40 in 11 days.

Therefore, other recently launched titles are also being sold at a cheaper price on BestBuy for the time being. For example, the recently launched Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown is already down to just $30.
