Xbox Is Still Working On It!

Story Highlight
  • Call of Duty releases on Game Pass are inevitable.
  • Phil Spencer confirms Microsoft is working to bring Activision Blizzard titles to the service soon.
  • The next major Call of Duty is expected to launch as part of the subscription.

Since Microsoft acquired Activision Blizzard, fans have been waiting for the publisher’s catalog, including Call of Duty, to arrive on Game Pass. Several months later, Microsoft has not been able to live up to its promises.

While Diablo 4 is coming to the service next month, Call of Duty’s position remains surrounded by uncertainty. However, Phil Spencer has reassured fans that plans are in motion to bring this series to Game Pass.

Why it matters: Call of Duty is one of the biggest gaming franchises, and it would serve as an instant boost to Game Pass subscribers.

During a recent interview with Stephen Totilo, Phil Spencer addressed various parts of the Xbox business, including digital releases, claiming that Microsoft does not want consoles transitioning to an all-digital future.

On the subject of Activision Blizzard games, Phil Spencer was quick to confirm his commitment to bringing all Activision Blizzard to Game Pass.

Our intent is the full portfolio of games from ZeniMax, Activision Blizzard, and Xbox Game Studios on Game Pass, day one.

While he did not point to Call of Duty specifically, this statement all but confirms that this first-person shooter franchise is also coming soon.

When asked why the subscription service hasn’t received Activision Blizzard games yet, Spencer stated that Microsoft is still making preparations. He pointed to back-end work to achieve this goal, hinting that fans would not have to wait much longer.

Diablo 4

During the Xbox business update last week, Matt Booty made a similar comment. Naturally, this led to speculation about Call of Duty. Combining both statements, it seems this franchise will not be away from the subscription for too long.

Microsoft supports over fifteen Call of Duty games due to backward compatibility. Therefore, this might be why the gaming giant has taken a while to prepare, possibly using the past few months to ensure all games are equipped to accommodate a surge in players.

Last year, Call of Duty servers were fixed by Xbox teams, and various older games saw a resurgence. Once the franchise arrives on Game Pass, an even bigger revival is expected, so Microsoft’s decision to prepare for the release is wise.

As Diablo 4 arrives next month, we hope to see an official announcement from Xbox soon.
