- Sam Altman has acknowledged that AI adoption is moving slower than he expected.
- The OpenAI CEO confirmed that he himself doesn’t use AI as much as he should be.
- He also believes that this may be a positive in the long run, with the transition being smoother and slower.
AI continues to be a disruptive technology in the world of computing, but it has yet to live up to promises made by the likes of Sam Altman and Elon Musk.
Where AI was once proclaimed to make full games, it has seemingly hit a wall, especially when it comes to mainstream adoption. Discussing the subject, OpenAI CEO Sam Altman himself admitted that he may have been a bit too ambitious with this timeline.
Why it matters: AI companies are currently spending billions and using numerous resources globally on pushing the technology further.

Speaking with David Senra, Sam Altman stated that AI adoption is not reshaping the economy as quickly as he previously expected.
Although AI tools are advancing quickly, businesses are not changing overnight. The OpenAI CEO noted that the economy has so much inertia that businesses aren’t too quick to adapt.
This is also the case for people, who tend to stick to their old habits. In fact, Sam Altman himself notes that he should be using a product like Codex more often instead of relying on old-school computing techniques.
I disagree on the timeline. I think it’s gonna take a bit longer. I thought when we got to GPT-4 back in 2023 that there was going to be much more disruption in software business.

Altman also says that the slow AI adoption isn’t necessarily a bad thing. This can ultimately lead to a smoother transition for artificial intelligence, especially as it aims even higher with AGI.
