This data comes from the Entertainment Software Association’s latest report. In collaboration with Circana, the Entertainment Software Association has pointed out that $48 billion was spent on game software in the US last year.
Meanwhile, $6.6 billion was spent on hardware, and the remaining $2.6 billion came through accessories and peripherals. The ESA President, Stanley Pierre-Louis, said in a statement:
“These figures reinforce the position of the video game industry as a growth engine for the United States economy.”
He further said two-thirds of Americans play video games regularly and that these results confirm the video game industry’s impact as a cultural influence. Therefore, gaming has been seen as a positive influence in this instance.
PC gaming likely played a massive role in the $57 billion figure since it was the most popular platform in 2023. It dominated the competition against all consoles combined, and it is likely to continue to do so.
Meanwhile, mobile gaming showed no signs of stopping. It is expected to grow to $270 billion within eight years, showcasing a glimpse of the future success of the industry.
