Focuses On Indiana Jones & Hellblade 2!

Story Highlights
  • Following last week’s rumors, Xbox has officially announced a Developer Direct.
  • This mini-showcase will focus on the gaming giant’s 2024 lineup.
  • Hellblade 2 and Indiana Jones will headline the event.

The year 2023 ended with much success for Xbox. First-party games like Hi-Fi Rush were well-received, Starfield reached millions of players, and Microsoft finally finished its merger with Activision Blizzard.

However, 2024 is looking even better so far, and Microsoft is looking to start things off with a massive first impression. A new Xbox Developer Direct is now confirmed for 18 January at 12 PM PT.

Why it matters: Last year’s Xbox Developer Direct was a major success for the gaming giant after it tried a new format.

xbox first party

The Developer Direct was already rumored for quite a while. Last week, multiple sources stated that Xbox was ready to host a showcase soon, and sure enough, the announcement has come as expected.

Announcing the event, Microsoft has also confirmed the list of games that will receive the most attention. While Hellblade 2 and Avowed were already expected, a surprise first-party game is part of the list.

MachineGames’ Indiana Jones will finally show up for the first time next week after its initial reveal in 2021. Xbox confirms 10 minutes of details for the event, including a gameplay trailer and information about the game’s story.

Unfortunately, the announcement points out that Activision Blizzard will not be part of this showcase. While many hoped Xbox would confirm a release schedule for the publisher’s titles on Game Pass, the gaming giant has already set expectations before the Developer Direct.

Xbox Game Pass

Elsewhere, the Xbox Developer Direct will be followed by a presentation from ZeniMax Online Studios, revealing the future of The Elder Scrolls Online.

Many have also been curious about a potential shadow drop from the event. If this is happening, Microsoft would not want to spill the beans on it just yet, so we can still keep our hopes up, just in case.
