The Day Before is no stranger to controversy. Having faced multiple delays and accusations in the past, this game is shaping up to be one of the most suspicious projects from a developer known for smaller releases.
According to a video from Randomly, the recently released ‘final trailer’ has copied voice lines from trailers of games like Cyberpunk 2077 and Red Dead Redemption 2.
Why it matters: This is not the first time studio Fntastic has faced accusations of copying other developers’ work, further adding to the doubts around this project.
As a massive open-world survival game, The Day Before looks promising, but users grow doubtful of studio Fntastic’s promises. Amid previous controversies, the game’s latest trailer has led to more outrage.
The YouTube video comparing the game’s trailer points out that it seems to use the exact same dialogue as the trailer of Red Dead Redemption 2. When highlighting the weapon handling and recoil mechanics, the Day Before trailer states:
“Each weapon boasts unique characteristics as well as realistic reload and recoil mechanics.
Comparatively, the Red Dead Redemption 2 trailer uses a similar line when describing its weapons. This trailer states:
“Each weapon has unique characteristics with realistic reload and recoil.”
Such similarities have also been drawn with the trailer of Cyberpunk 2077. The fact that the game appears to have used an AI voiceover for its final trailer has not done it any favors, either.
In the comments, viewers have been quite critical of these similarities. User Randomly points to the lack of uniqueness or creativity in The Day Before, while others claim this is just a hint of things to come.
Though some may be willing to look past these similarities as mere coincidences, this is not the first instance of The Day Before seemingly copying another popular game.
Several months ago, Reddit users were quick to highlight the gameplay trailer’s similarities to titles like Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War, The Division, and more.

Following the YouTube video, multiple outlets have attempted to reach out to Fntastic for their thoughts about the voiceover comparisons, but they have yet to receive a response.
The Day Before is scheduled to arrive as an early access release on 7 December after years of excitement and delays. Like many others, we remain skeptical of the game. However, we are willing to try the game before drawing conclusions.
