Get ROG Ally Z1 Extreme For Just $620!

Story Highlights
  • The Asus ROG Ally is one of the most powerful Windows-based gaming handhelds.
  • While its higher-end variant is priced at $700, this price has been reduced to $620 for a limited time.
  • Such competitive measures will ensure handheld gaming continues to grow in 2024 and beyond.

Handheld gaming is better than ever in 2023. The Nintendo Switch is reaching new heights after selling over 132 million units, while the Steam Deck has been upgraded with an OLED display.

Amidst the competition, Asus has lowered the price of the ROG Ally to $619 in the US for Black Friday. It has also been discounted in Spain, where it is currently available for 699 euros at the PcComponentes site.

Why it matters: The Asus ROG Ally is among the most compelling Windows handhelds. With better hardware than many of its competitors, it has a clear edge over the likes of Steam Deck.

For the AMD Ryzen Z1 Extreme SoC version of this device, an $80 discount is a big deal. In comparison, the lowest-end model, which comes with the Ryzen Z1 processor and half the storage, is officially priced at $599.

Additionally, the Lenovo Legion GO debuted one day before Asus went ahead with this price cut. With a similar series of APUs from AMD, this is another compelling option for those looking to try handheld gaming on Windows devices.

Lenovo’s offering boasts a better display than the Asus ROG Ally and faster 7500MHz RAM, making this price cut a strategic move from the company. This discount also extends to Europe, with Asus selling the handheld at a discount of 100 euros.

In terms of the overall architecture, both devices offer a similar experience. The AMD Ryzen Z1 Extreme is used by both Asus and Lenovo, with the SoC offering an 8 cores/16 threads CPU.

The Radeon 780M with 768 Stream Processors is responsible for doing the heavy lifting during gaming, allowing these tiny devices to play intensive AAA games at somewhat respectable settings.

Handheld gaming is going through a massive boom in 2023. With more interest from tech giants than before, this is just the beginning.

Nintendo is bringing its own innovative ideas to this sector again in 2024, and Valve is currently researching new ways to engage gamers for the eventual Steam Deck 2.
