Spider-Man 2 Sets New Record With 2.5 Million Sales In 24 Hours

Fastest Selling PlayStation Game of All Time!

Spider-Man 2 has been out for just over three days, and it is already making headlines in the gaming industry. With gorgeous visuals, incredibly fast traversal, and an emotional narrative, the game fires on all cylinders to deliver a memorable Spider-Man story.

Prior to its release, the game was expected to dethrone God of War Ragnarok as PlayStation’s biggest first-party launch. Sure enough, Spider-Man 2 has achieved this feat, selling over 2.5 million copies in 24 hours.

Why it matters: Compared to God of War Ragnarok, Insomniac’s latest release had a smaller audience since the former was available on both the PS4 and PS5, making this achievement even more impressive.

PlayStation has dubbed this release a high-flying launch, confirming that Spider-Man 2 is now the fastest-selling release for PlayStation Studios. Therefore, the game has left behind the likes of The Last of Us Part 2, both recent God of War games, and much more.

Recently, a report confirmed that the title left rivals like Super Mario Wonder behind in terms of boxed sales in the UK. Massive releases like Hogwarts Legacy were also left in the dust when comparing sales on the PS5.

While PlayStation has not released much else this year, Spider-Man 2 will likely prove to be a system seller for the rest of 2023. Like other first-party releases, the game was bundled with consoles in various parts of the world.

In addition to bundles, the gaming giant released a special edition controller and customizable plates to celebrate Spidey’s latest adventure. Nonetheless, this is another massive win for Insomniac after the developer recently earned its first 90-plus score on Metacritic in many years.

Marvel's Spider-Man 2

Spider-Man 2 is now the third highest-rated superhero game to date, and the studio has already teased exciting things for its eventual sequel.

We are happy to see the game doing so well since we have enjoyed Insomniac’s take on the franchise after it was stuck in an era of mediocrity before the 2018 release. The studio has done a wonderful job bringing Spider-Man to life, and we would like to congratulate the entire studio for this feat.

The developer has raised the bar for the next PlayStation first-party games. Fortunately, Bryan Intihar has already teased an incredibly exciting direction for Spider-Man 3, possibly leading to another major success for PlayStation.
