Sony’s Tiny PS5 Slim Stand Becomes Meme On Social Media

Pay $30 For Vertical Stand!

After three years of the console’s lifespan, Sony has unveiled its latest PlayStation console, the PS5 Slim, which is going to be released in November.

This revision of the console is lighter, takes up less space, and comes with a detachable disc drive, starting at $450 for the digital model. However, Sony has also changed the console’s stand.

Following the reveal, this stand attracted a lot of attention, and netizens started trolling the console due to the bizarre look of the stand.

Why it matters: Sony is currently the market leader, and PlayStation is the platform of choice for over 41 million gamers worldwide.

While the PS5 Slim already looks odd enough, its tiny stand looks completely out of place. Many have pointed out that it looks like a cheap afterthought not worth the inclusion in a premium package.

Earlier this week, we discussed how many believe Insomniac Games is carrying the PS5, and Twitter users were quick to make this point again, this time using the PS5’s tiny stand and labeling it Insomniac Games.

Others pointed out how strange the tiny stand looked, with many mocking its size, making it look like a tiny paper clip barely handling the weight of the PS5.

Making matters worse, PlayStation has announced that the vertical stand will not be included in the box. Unlike the launch console, PlayStation owners will be required to pay $30 for the vertical stand.

On the subject of trolling, this is not the first time Sony’s latest console has been made fun of. In 2020, it was trolled for looking like a router and its size, which was extraordinarily large for a console.

We find it disappointing that PlayStation is seemingly providing a worse package with the new console. While the console has likely become cheaper to manufacture since 2020, it starts at $450, making it more expensive than the launch Digital Edition.

Prices have also gone up in Japan for a second time, and despite the higher price, it lacks a vertical stand, and the one provided does not inspire much confidence.
