Red Dead Redemption 2 60FPS Console Update Leaked In Microsoft Documents

All Hope Is Not Lost For 60FPS On Consoles!

Red Dead Redemption 2 raised the bar for modern open-world games. The latest release from Rockstar Games came out in 2018, bringing a new protagonist and a living, breathing, open world.

Despite its sheer scope, Red Dead Redemption 2 is also a stunning game, showcasing the capabilities of last-generation hardware like the PS4 and Xbox One. Such elements allowed the game to sell over 55 million units in less than five years.

However, it has not received a current-generation update for new consoles despite these achievements. Many have expressed disappointment that consoles do not offer a 60FPS experience for Rockstar Games’ latest title, but this may change soon.

Why it matters: 60FPS has become a new standard, with most current-generation titles offering this frame rate. Studios have also used the new consoles to update their existing titles with higher resolution and frame rates.

A document from the FTC court hearings has surfaced today, revealing details about games like Dishonored 3 and more.

It also mentions a new version of Red Dead Redemption 2 for current-generation consoles. The leak suggests Microsoft was hoping to bring the game to Xbox Game Pass alongside the release of the new version.

While the game had already been featured on the subscription before, this version would have incentivized many players to revisit it on newer consoles like the Xbox Series S|X.

An update for Red Dead Redemption 2 would have included the much-requested 60FPS mode and a potential boost to resolution. Like GTA 5, a new version was expected to introduce ray tracing to the game.

However, Microsoft’s document suggests a release date of FY23. Since 2024 is right around the corner, Rockstar Games may have delayed the update indefinitely or ultimately canceled it to focus on future projects like GTA 6.

Take-Two has previously hinted at a 2024-2025 release window for GTA 6, leaving little time on Rockstar Games’ hands to work on an update for Red Dead Redemption 2.

The studio recently released a major update for GTA 5, making the game playable at 60FPS on consoles for the first time and introducing ray tracing to the game.

While the future of the current-generation update remains uncertain, Take-Two has not lost interest in Red Dead Redemption.

The Take-Two CEO previously hinted that the IP would not come to an end anytime soon, potentially hinting at Red Dead Redemption 3 after the long-awaited release of GTA 6.
