Series S Hardware Is Limiting For The Dev!

Quantum Error is an upcoming horror game in development at TeamKill Media. The game is scheduled for a PS5 release on November 3, and Xbox Series S|X ports are also in development at the studio.

A few months ago, the developers claimed that the Xbox Series S|X versions needed more time due to a slower SSD compared to the PS5. During a recent interview, the studio elaborated on its progress on the Xbox Series S|X consoles.

TeamKill Media confirms Quantum Error is playable on the Xbox Series S, but it is in an unacceptable state on the budget console.

Why it matters: Microsoft has reiterated time and again that the Xbox Series S is a current-generation console, claiming performance issues are avoidable with a bit of planning.

During a recent interview with Gamingbolt, the developers talked about the release of Quantum Error on the Xbox Series S console. When the developer was asked about whether the console would be able to run the game, he stated:

“We are not 100% sure yet, the Series S so far works but it runs really poorly, frame rate is very low, and resolution is extremely blurry.”

He elaborated that the current state is unacceptable, but the developers are still working on optimizations for the game. In terms of a potential 60FPS mode, TeamKill Media pointed to a 30FPS target for Quantum Error on the Xbox Series S.

The developer believes games can run well on the Xbox Series S if they are built from the ground up for the console, alluding to the difficulties of scaling down games for Microsoft’s budget console.

Quantum Error started development as an Unreal Engine 4 game and has since shifted to Unreal Engine 5. The studio claims to be taking full advantage of the PS5 hardware, leading to issues with the Xbox ports.

The developer confirmed TeamKill Media is committed to delivering a visually engaging experience and hopes to provide similar visuals across all platforms without sacrificing the overall quality for lower-end hardware.

While TeamKill Media has been very vocal about the issues of the Xbox Series S, developers like Larian Studios believe there is nothing inherently wrong with weaker hardware since each platform requires certain sacrifices.
