Respawn In Early Stages Of Last-Gen Ports!

Star Wars Jedi: Survivor is among the few third-party titles launched exclusively for current-generation consoles in 2023. With features like ray tracing, it was also one of the most visually appealing games in 2023.

However, Respawn Entertainment’s latest release did not come without its issues. It showed various frame rate problems on consoles, and the render resolution also dropped below expectations in various parts.

As such, many believed that the game would not have been possible on last-generation hardware. However, EA has just confirmed that the studio is working on bringing the game to PS4 and Xbox One.

Why it matters: Third-party games had finally begun to leave last-generation consoles behind this year. Still, it seems many studios are not ready to drop support just yet.

Star Wars Jedi: Survivor

The PS4 and Xbox One have had an impressive run for nearly ten years, with developers pushing the hardware on both consoles to their absolute limits.

This has resulted in groundbreaking games like Red Dead Redemption 2. However, the hardware has proven to be limiting for recent games, and this was expected to justify Respawn Entertainment’s decision to skip the aging hardware.

Nonetheless, Gamespot reports the studio has begun early development of last-generation ports. The report does not elaborate beyond the announcement, but fans should not expect the ports to be released anytime soon.

In terms of features or compromises, Respawn Entertainment has not said anything so far. The PS4 and Xbox One do not support hardware ray tracing, so fans can at least expect the exclusion of this feature, among others.

The developer also assured fans that more improvements for PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC versions are being worked on. At launch, Star Wars Jedi: Survivor received unanimous criticism from PC gamers due to a terrible port.

The announcement also leads to speculation about the performance differences between mid-generation refreshes like the PS4 Pro and Xbox One X.

Nonetheless, this move will bring Star Wars Jedi: Survivor to millions of new players. The game has already been highly successful, and EA will likely see another wave of players once the port is released.
