Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart PC Launch Disappoints With 8.7K Concurrent Users

Underwhelming Launch On Steam!

Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart marks the latest addition to PlayStation’s growing library of PC offerings. The PS5 exclusive was released just over two years ago, arriving on PC with new features like DirectStorage, RTX IO, and DLSS.

Nixxes Software returned for the recent port, leading to plenty of excitement after several poor ports on the platform. Despite a promising release, Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart appears to be performing worse than PlayStation’s best PC ports.

The game has launched to less than 9K concurrent players on Steam.

Why it matters: Various recent ports from the gaming giant have not lived up to expectations. This includes examples like Uncharted: Legacy of Thieves Collection and Returnal.

As seen above, Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart reached just under 8.8K Steam concurrent players on day one.

In contrast, a recent launch like Remnant 2 has managed to achieve over 80K concurrent players. The Last of Us Part 1 also reached over 35K concurrent players, despite the negativity around the PC port.

This launch performance could be attributed to PC players being unfamiliar with the franchise. While Ratchet & Clank has existed for several decades, Rift Apart marks the first PC release of the franchise.

Furthermore, PlayStation’s last PC port, The Last of Us Part 1, was among the worst releases on the platform in 2023. This could have pushed potential buyers away from Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart, with them choosing to wait for reviews and initial reception.

While PlayStation has found incredible success with PC releases like Marvel’s Spider-Man and God of War, recent releases have struggled to gather a massive audience. Critically acclaimed titles like Uncharted 4 saw similar results at launch.

Nonetheless, this is unlikely to deter PlayStation from future PC releases.

Recent documents from the gaming giant have already confirmed plans for additional PC games, with titles like The Last of Us Part 2 and Ghost of Tsushima being potential candidates for upcoming releases.
