Canceled After Several Delays!

The Just Cause franchise dates back to 2006, and the latest entry, Just Cause 4, was released in 2018. Since then, a new entry has begun development, but it is still a few years away from release.

However, Just Cause also had a mobile game in development. Just Cause Mobile was announced three years ago with a 2021 release window. However, development faced difficulties due to the pandemic.

Square Enix has announced that development has been canceled after these difficulties.

Why it matters: Mobile gaming is a huge industry. The market’s popularity has encouraged gaming giants like PlayStation and Xbox to pursue mobile gaming endeavors.

Just Cause

According to VGC, Anne-Lou Grosbois-Favreau from Square Enix said:

“It is with great sadness that we are announcing the end of development for Just Cause Mobile.”

However, the game was already playable in early access. Square Enix confirms that it is also being removed from digital stores. The Global Brand Lead from Square Enix expressed his disappointment, stating that it is not easy to make such announcements.

He further mentioned that Blue Diamonds purchased during early access were refunded to Google Play accounts on February 24, 2023.

The game was delayed several times, so it was expected to release this year. However, that is not the case anymore. Regarding the next launch in the main series, a new title has already been announced.

However, the latest installment in the series didn’t sell well. The company believed Just Cause 4 sold poorly because it competed with various AAA games and did not offer a compelling experience compared to other games.

Nonetheless, the series has sold over 15 million copies worldwide, and a new entry is likely to be received well. While fans might be disappointed with the cancellation of Just Cause Mobile, the upcoming mainline title should make up for this disappointment.
