It’s no secret that many believe the games industry today isn’t as innovative as it once was.

In the wake of rising costs and impending layoffs and studio closures, developers tend to play it safe more often than not. This is also what PlayStation creator Ken Kutaragi thinks, urging developers to think out of the box.

Speaking to 4Gamer, Ken Kutaragi has shared a blunt assessment of the current state of video games, saying the medium has stagnated and needs more curiosity from developers as it moves toward its next phase.

The good news is that the PlayStation creator believes games are at a turning point. He believes developers must keep experimenting and that things are effectively over if developers lose their curiosity.

The moment you lose curiosity and think, this is probably as good as it gets, it’s all over.

Reflecting on the early days of PlayStation, he noted that the team set out to change the world. He believes today’s developers should follow a similar mindset and focus on leading instead of following the masses.

The PlayStation creator also believes that the gaming medium still has room to grow, so it will be interesting to see where it goes from here.
