Starfield Gets 17+ Mature Rating Due To Violence And Drug Use

Featuring Plenty of Gore And Violence!

Starfield is the next game from Bethesda Game Studios, the developer behind award-winning RPG games like Fallout and The Elder Scrolls. The game promises space exploration on a grand scale and will be available on Xbox Series S|X and PC.

While more information about the game will be revealed next month, a few hours earlier, the ESRB rating for Starfield was spotted on an image from the official Twitter account banner.

According to the image, Starfield will come with a Mature rating.

Why it matters: The rating could hint at the larger themes and narrative elements found in the game. This also means that Starfield will continue the trend of gore in gameplay from previous Bethesda releases.

The rating highlights elements like violence, blood, and the use of drugs. Due to these elements, the ESRB has determined that Starfield is suitable for gamers that are at least 17 years old.

This rating is also in line with previous Bethesda Game Studios titles. Games like The Elder Scrolls 5 and Fallout 4 earned a similar Mature rating due to violence that can show gore and decapitations.

Blood and violence are also shown in the Starfield gameplay trailer, but from this rating, it is confirmed that the title will feature other mature elements as well.

With Redfall’s recent failure, Starfield is under even more pressure to perform according to expectations. Xbox will reveal more about the upcoming RPG in June during the Starfield Direct.

This may also give fans a better look at more of the mature tones that Bethesda Game Studios is aiming for. Do you think Bethesda Game Studios can deliver another exceptional RPG? Will the title live up to the hype?
