Star Wars Jedi: Survivor’s Performance Mode on PS5 Drops Below 720p

Performance Mode Native Resolution Goes Lower Than 720p!

The long-awaited sequel to 2019’s Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order offers stunning visuals, engaging gameplay, and exciting combat mechanics. However, Star Wars Jedi: Survivor falls short in terms of performance.

Well-known tech experts at Digital Foundry are known for conducting in-depth analyses of new game titles upon release. Their latest analysis of Star Wars Jedi: Survivor on PlayStation found underwhelming performance and frame rate issues in both graphical modes.

With the performance mode aiming for 60FPS at 1440p resolution, Star Wars Jedi: Survivor was shown to run at a maximum of 864p (1536×864) native resolution before upscaling to 1440p by FSR while running on performance mode.

The game renders at a disappointing resolution on performance mode and can fall as low as 648p(1152×648).

However, even with the compromises, the performance mode cannot target the advertised 60 FPS, reaching a framerate between 45-55 FPS at most times. It is worth noting that the performance mode has ray tracing enabled, which can cause performance to decrease.

On the other hand, the resolution mode, capped at 30 FPS and aimed to target a 4k resolution, offers much better pixel quality and renders draw distances and shadows. Resolution mode can run at a maximum of 1242p and as low as 972p before upscaling to a higher resolution.

The framerate during the game’s opening sequences in the resolution mode can struggle and even drop down as low as 20 FPS, mainly while switching between cutscenes and gameplay sequences.

The resolution upscaling by FSR also has a severe downside which can cause image quality to deteriorate. In specific sequences, FSR can show visual noise and even image tearing.

The game’s poor launch performance and technical issues have caused fans to overlook its fantastic story and gameplay. Although Star Wars Jedi: Survivor received a positive reception upon its initial release and garnered excellent review scores, it was later review-bombed on Steam due to frustrations with the game’s performance.

Many AAA games this year have suffered from terrible launches, and Respawn Entertainment’s latest release is no exception. In response to the game’s performance issues, EA has apologized and reassured fans that they are working on updates to address the problems.
