Redfall To Launch With Denuvo DRM On PC

Denuvo Coming To Redfall!

Redfall has been a hot topic in the gaming industry recently. Two months ago, it was revealed that the game would require an active internet connection at all times. This drew criticism from many gaming fans, and the developer is now working on changing this requirement.

A few days ago, Arkane Studios confirmed that Redfall would not launch with a 60 FPS performance mode on Xbox Series S|X consoles. This shocked many fans as the game had been previously advertised with the 60 FPS tag on the Xbox store page.

Another controversial detail has now been spotted about the game. The official Steam page points to a Denuvo DRM implementation for Redfall.

Redfall Denuvo DRM

For those unfamiliar, Denuvo is an anti-piracy software. It has been previously used in various franchises like Resident Evil, Assassin’s Creed, and more.

While Denuvo is not inherently bad, it has previously shown significant performance impacts. This has led to a bad reputation for the software, with many PC gamers immediately showing distaste whenever it is mentioned for an upcoming game.

Denuvo is known to hog CPU resources, and previous tests have shown a notable increase in performance when comparing the same games without Denuvo. As such, many developers have also been known to remove the anti-piracy implementation after launch.

In Redfall’s case, this implementation might not see too much criticism due to the game’s focus on online aspects. However, the game has been subject to criticism recently, and this discovery could add to the criticism surrounding the game.

Redfall’s previous marketing suggests that the game was always intended to run at 60 FPS on consoles, so the developers may have run into performance hurdles later down the line during development.

This may also translate to the PC release, and Denuvo could potentially exacerbate these problems if this happens. Since Arkane Studios is now working on removing the online-only requirements for the game, it is possible that Denuvo could also be removed through a post-launch patch with enough demand.

Recently, Capcom removed the software from Resident Evil Village. This change came nearly two years after launch, with previous tests showing a noticeable upgrade to performance with Denuvo.

Fortunately for gamers not fond of Denuvo, Redfall will be available on Xbox Game Pass for PC at a low subscription price. This will allow fans to try the game without spending $70.
